Summary Day 1 - World Cup 2025

The World Cup have officially kicked off in Turku.
Spirit was high among crews when the yachts headed out in the morning from the marina. The first race got off to an eager start, with the fleet experiencing a couple of false starts before the Classics finally set off onto Airisto without much further drama.
Conditions were nearly perfect, with steady breeze and occasional gusts reaching up to 20 knots.

The fleet sailed mostly closely packed, showcasing fair and spirited competition in both races of the day. The race area, Airisto, offered tactical opportunities on both sides of the course — rewarding those who timed their moves well.
Modern yacht Yquem II claimed superior victory in both races and total of the day.
The second and third overall and by that also winner and second in the Sira-class was Pandora and Starling Burgess. A strong opening in the Eight metre class was done by the all-female crew securing an impressive third in the Sira class and fifth overall.
With a great first day we look forward to the coming days!
