2021 World Cup COVID 19 Update

Dear all,

On behalf of the organizing committee of the 2021 World Cup held in The Netherlands from 28th of August until the 4th of September I am happy to share with you the following update explaining different scenario’s in preparation for this event.

The preparations for the World Cup are in full swing and we are looking forward to creating a truly memorable event! The sun and wind are ordered, the city is ready, the Royal Netherlands Yacht Club is awaiting all the 8’s and her crews and has prepared the race committee, and committed all her volunteers, and the party arrangements have been made.  So all in all, if we are allowed to sail, we are certainly ready for a great regatta.

However, the Covid crisis is still very much going on in the Netherlands. We are currently in the heaviest lockdown since the beginning of Covid and this will last until the 9th of February. Our lighter covid measures, are in place until March this year. And formally, there will be no event permits handed out until July 1st. The upside is that vaccination has started, which will lead to lifting of the measures during the year. As the vaccination is underway in large parts of Europe and the rest of the world, we feel that a Sailing World Cup, might just be what the doctor ordered.

This means we are operating in uncertain and unchartered waters and exploring what can be done in close contact with the municipality of Enkhuizen, The Royal Netherlands Yacht Club our sponsors. We are currently working on deals to make sure that if we can sail, we will have a great event, but if Covid is rearing it’s ugly head again, we can cancel and minimize our losses. Our sponsors are standing by to make this a great event, but will also be able to step out just in case. However, getting sponsors is difficult in these times as most companies have currently other things to worry about. For this reason we would like everybody to register as soon as possible. In case the event is cancelled, you will get your registration fee back. And with the booking options, make sure you can cancel. If you need help with your booking, we have Judith Albers standing by to assist you. DO NOTE, if you book your stay through Judith, you are assured. refund in case we need to cancel the event.

These are the scenario’s and difficulties which lay in front of us and give you an overview of our current situation. We are confident we will have a great event and we look forward to welcome you all in great numbers in Enkhuizen and soak up the sun and all the best that The Netherlands can offer. Don’t forget, Team Falcon is stand by to assist you with any questions you might have.
