Private Spectator Boats
Welcome as Spectators at Sea
We are happy to welcome spectators to watch the exciting races out at sea! The safest way to do that is to take part in the cruises arranged by Saaristolinjat or the VIP cruises on Saxdor boats. Info on these tours can be found here: www.8mr.org/world-cup/2025/visitors
For those of you who will come out to the race course in your own boat, we ask you to be aware of and respect the guidelines below. Please show the utmost respect for the racing area. The 8mR boats are beautiful, big and fast - give them space to race in this great event!
Remember that you, as a spectator boat or recreational vessel at sea, always have the obligation to give way to sailing boats participating in a race. This is according to the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs).

Good to Know
- The course is set up so that the starting line is at a 90-degree angle to the wind direction. See an example drawing of the race course below.
- During ongoing races, only Race Committee, Jury, and Security Team boats (mostly RIBs) are allowed within the race course area.
- All other spectator boats and vessels shall stay outside the race course area (at safe distances from the starting line, competing vessels, upwind mark, downwind gate, and finish line), preferably in the designated spectator areas.

The event will have security boats positioned around the race course to guide spectator boats to the safest areas and provide instructions if necessary. Security boats will, when required, ask other traffic to move to the leeward side of the competing boats.
Spectator boats will find daily information on race course setup and best viewing areas on the event website www.8mr.org/world-cup/2025/private-boats. The most updated information is still always out at sea, due to the wind, quick changes to the race course might need to be done. So please always follow the instructions given by security boats.
We are delighted that you want to see these great races, and with this mutual respect we will together experience a great and unique sailing World Cup!
NOTE: This indicative course description is not official. The official course description is given in the sailing instructions for the races. The location, direction and structure of the course may be changed at any time by the race committee during the race day.
